We are a community senior’s choir of approximately 40 members. We practice once a week on Thursday from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM in the Heritage Room at the Nepean Sportsplex Seniors Center. There are no auditions and you never have to sing solo unless you want to.
The membership fee is on a sliding scale from$150.00 to $100.00. You decide what you can afford. The amount you pay is confidential. Fees are collected twice a year, in September and February. You can pay by e-transfer to nepeansongsters@gmail.com or by cash or cheque. The money is used to pay the professional musicians an honorarium and to cover costs such as rent of the room and sheet music.
Heather Lynn Smith directs the practices and chooses our repertoire with a committee of choir members. Devon Wastle-Thivierge plays the piano accompaniment. Both are accomplished musicians and their contributions to the choir are invaluable.
Once a month, we sing at seniors’ residences, usually in Nepean. The dress code for singouts is simple, white above the waist, black below the waist, with black shoes. Scarves for the women and ties for the men. Attendance at sing outs is voluntary and rewarding.
Our true goal is to sing and have fun for two hours a week. Laughing is very important in our choir.
